Book Review: You Are a Badass

THIS BOOK.  I am pretty obsessed with a lot of self help books, usually because they are positive and boost my confidence in my ability to handle whatever life throws my way.  However, Jen Sincero’s You are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life is my absolute favorite. I love it so much I had one of her quotes  on my calendar so I would look at it every day.  I even bought this book for my best friend for his birthday, and tried to bully my brother into reading it.  I don’t think either of them have acquiesced yet, but when they do, I know they will love it.

I picked up this book in Target and almost didn’t buy it because I thought the title sounded way too cheesy to be enjoyable.  I took a peak inside and was blown away, I am so glad I bought this book and now that I’ve read it, the title seems spot on.  Sincero really focuses on self-love, discovering self-limiting beliefs and looking at ways to move beyond them to build your confidence.  It’s kind of like a really practical version of The Secret without getting too far “out there” or spiritually bypassing growing your self-image. It is a super easy read with a good number of activities to do to help put her method into practice.

My favorite part though, is that it ends every chapter with a different version of “love yourself.”  Again, as cheesy as that sounds it makes a huge difference, changing your circumstances, life, happiness etc requires you to love yourself, and honestly its not easy.  Self love is difficult, everyone I know struggles with it and no one gets it 100% of the time.  You Are a Badass is a great place to start your self love journey, or to help you keep moving forward if you’ve already started.  If you are looking for a good read that will help develop self-love and confidence, this is the book for you.  Read it, love it, love yourself.
